Deny Defend Depose
2025
This specific work is composed similar to the internet trend of accidental baroque photographs that look like paintings, colloquially referred to as “accidental renaissances,” in this instance butch pool players frame a faux bloodied wall gratified with the statement “deny, defend, depose” a play on the phrase “delay, deny, defend” describing common tactics insurance companies utilize to avoid paying claims.
The smeared text surrounded by bloodied hand prints echoes not only the literal blood on the hands of these CEOs, as well as the overall current political unrest caused by healthcare CEOs prioritizing profit over the public. Younger generations, especially QTBIPOC, cope in reaction to their circumstances through engaging in their community in spite of the systems working against them, reminiscent of the "Bury your friends in the morning, protest in the afternoon, and dance all night” mindset adapted by the elder queer community during the AIDs epidemic.
