Over the past year, I have been exploring the nuances of performance as an act of resistance. When a body steps onto a stage, it insists on being seen in ways it may be ignored, regulated, or marginalized in other spaces. The body; carrying its histories, identities, pains, and joys becomes undeniable when engaged in performance. Audiences are invited to encounter bodies and narratives that exist beyond their own frames of reference. This work has been investigated primarily within drag and burlesque spaces, and most notably at Elis’s Mile High Club.
